Work with a Neutral Co-Pilot

If you’re looking for someone knowledgeable, authentic, and neutral—a co-pilot who helps you see blind spots and make sense of what’s really going on—I’m here for that. I’m a Master’s-level, licensed associate clinician with 8+ years in mental health and substance use care. I keep the focus on you: outside perspective, flexibility, and lasting change.

Availability: Sessions are Sundays only (this is a part-time practice).
Free in-office consultation: Schedule here → https://claysaddictioncounselingpllc.as.me/

My Approach (Co-Pilot, Not Back-Seat Driver)

You bring your lived experience; I bring a calm, neutral lens and evidence-based tools. We’ll map where you are, where you want to go, and the smallest next steps to get traction.

But here’s the truth: therapy with me is hard work. It means being willing to look closely at yourself, challenge patterns, practice new skills, and sometimes sit in discomfort. I’ll walk alongside you—but I won’t sugarcoat that meaningful growth takes effort.

  • Active & results-oriented: I will help guide you on what hard work can create lasting change.

  • Direct but collaborative: I’ll gently reality-check patterns without harsh judgment.

  • Values-guided: If you’re not sure what your values are yet, we’ll discover them together.

  • Compassion-forward: Real change sticks when it’s paired with self-kindness, not self-criticism.

Common roots we can explore together: trauma/PTSD, chronic pain, psychosis-related challenges, anxiety, depression—My specialty that I exclusively work with is that when it is intertwined with drugs and alcohol.

Evidence Based Treatments

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: We can work together collaboratively in softly challenging distorted unhelpful/exaggerated/unrealistic harsh judgements/thoughts/beliefs that appear during your distress. Just because we have a thought doesn't make it true. We can work together to accept uncomfortable emotions/physical symptoms rather than act harsh towards them. Our emotions, although sometimes misguided, are trying to help us and we can take a more thankful/flexible attitude of allowing them to be there even though they are very unpleasant. Self compassion is powerful!

    • Treats chronic pain, psychosis, anxiety, depression, and addiction.

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy: The average CPT-treated participant fared better than 89% of those in inactive control conditions at posttreatment and 82% at follow-up. CPT is a well-researched, manualized therapy proven to significantly reduce symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is generally delivered over 12 sessions and helps clients learn how to challenge and modify unhelpful beliefs related to the trauma. Other than the first session, 7 sheets of homework are assigned between each session. Videos to explain the therapy are available on https://cptforptsd.com/cpt-resources/

    • Treats PTSD

  • Motivational Interviewing: Part of us leans towards a new path, while another part likes things just as they are. This approach acknowledges that clients are the expert of their own lives and looks to roll with both sides without pushing any agenda onto the client. Thus, the client can look to see how actions may or may not match their unique values.

    • Treats addiction

  • Harm Reduction or Abstinence: Addiction is the compulsive use of drugs/alcohol despite significant negative consequences. Some clients are in a place in their lives in which they are not open to full abstinence from drugs/alcohol. If your goal is to either reduce or completely abstain from drug or alcohol use, I can help.
